Grades 1 to 6 - From Academics to Health

Aldergrove School provides Academic programming for all students in Division I (grades 1 – 3) and Division II (grades 4 – 6). The elementary curriculum covers the subjects of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health, physical education, art, and music. For grades 4 to 6, French as a Second Language is offered. Reading, writing, and word work are the core of student learning success and literacy receives strong support in our school community. The Balanced Literacy Program and the Foundations of Literacy are followed school-wide.

Aldergrove School’s Citizenship Framework supports the creation and maintenance of a welcoming, caring, respectful, safe, and inclusive learning environment, which is necessary for students to learn and achieve high academic standards. The Framework incorporates elements of The Seven Sacred Teachings, Character Education, The Circle of Courage, and the Zones of Regulation.

Comprehensive School Health is an internationally recognized framework for supporting improvement in students’ educational outcomes while addressing school health in a planned and integrative way. It is based on an understanding that healthy students learn better and achieve more. Schools play a role in influencing the encouragement of healthy lifestyle choices, and in promoting student health and well-being generally. Physical wellness is an important dimension of well-being and includes the components of healthy eating and an active lifestyle.
